Ying Yong Meets Burgomaster of Gothenburg, Sweden

On May 24, Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong met with Gothenburg Burgomaster Ann-Sofie Hermansson and the two mayors signed a memorandum on friendly cooperation between Shanghai and Gothenburg from 2017 to 2019.

Ying Yong said Sweden is one of the earliest countries to establish diplomatic relations with New China and the two countries have seen their friendly relations and cooperation steadily deepening over the years. Since forging a friendly exchange relationship in 1986 and becoming sister-cities in 2003, Shanghai and Gothenburg have conducted fruitful exchange and cooperation in the economic, trade, transportation, scientific research and educational areas. Their economic and cultural exchanges, such as the twinning of Shanghai port and Gothenburg port, the joint production of passenger vehicles by SAIC Motor and VOLVO, and the visit to Shanghai by "Gothenburg" sailboat, have left a deep impression on the Shanghai residents. The current visit by the burgomaster and the signing of agreement on a new round of cooperation and exchange will deepen cooperation in economy, transportation, scientific& technological innovation and education between the two cities. He called for the two cities to have more exchange of experience in urban construction administration and in coping with common challenges facing urban development.

Ann-Sofie Hermansson said this is his first visit to Shanghai and he hoped to learn more about the city. Gothenburg is willing to boost exchange and cooperation in urban construction administration and other areas with Shanghai and promote common development.
