Ying Yong Meets Governor of Chiang Mai Province, Thailand

    Ying Yong, mayor of Shanghai, met with Pawin Chamniprasart, governor of Chiang Mai Province, Thailand, on May 22.

    Ying Yong said China and Thailand are close to each other geographically and the two peoples have a close relationship, and the traditional family-like friendship between China and Thailand are deeply rooted in the hearts of the two peoples. Since forging their sister-city relationship in 2000, Shanghai and Chiang Mai Province have conducted cooperation and exchange in multiple forms in the areas such as tourism, culture, science & technology and visits by public servants. Shanghai is willing to, under the framework of China-Thailand comprehensive strategic partnership and Belt & Road Initiative, boost economic and trade cooperation and friendly exchange between public servants and youth with Chiang Mai Province. As both Shanghai and Chiang Mai aim to become world renowned tourist destinations, the mayor called for the two sides to actively implement the tourist agreement signed last year and achieve common development. Also, as anUN-recognized "city of design", Shanghai is willing to share experience and support Chiang Mai in its building of a "creative city".

    Governor Pawin Chamniprasart said since its twinning with Shanghai, Chiang Mai Province has had increasingly more cooperation and exchange in culture, tourism and trade with Shanghai. Chiang Mai wishes to learn from and draw on Shanghais experience in innovationin pushing forward its building of an innovative city. He wanted to hear more opinions and suggestions about Chiang Mai by the Chinese tourists, Shanghai citizens included, so that they can further improve service.
