Han Zheng Meets Mayor of San Francisco, US

    On October 9, Han Zheng, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, met with Edwin M. Lee, mayor of San Francisco, US, and the delegation led by him.

    Han Zheng said in the 30 years and more since the twinning of the two cities, Shanghai and San Francisco have had frequent exchanges and won rich rewards in their cooperation in the economic, trade, cultural, sports and other areas. The steady advances in Shanghai-San Francisco sister-city relationship will be conducive to deepening the friendly relations between China and the United States. He expected the San Francisco mayor and his delegation, through their visit to Shanghai, to further promote cultural, sports and other cooperation between the two cities, particularly to deepen youth exchange, making greater contributions to the Sino-US friendly relations.

    Mayor Edwin M. Lee expressed congratulations on Shanghai's achievements in development in recent years, saying that Shanghai is one of the most important cities for San Francisco in its external ties and San Francisco values greatly its sister-city relationship with Shanghai. We are gratified to see increasing cooperation and exchange in the economic, trade and other areas in recent years and we want to see more of it, particularly in the cultural, sports, environmental protection and other areas, and gain mutual benefits. We are willing to work to advance exchange at the local level between the two countries.
