09.13.2017

On September 8, Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong met with Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson and his delegation, and the two mayors signed a letter of intent on cooperation and exchange between the two cities.

Mayor Ying Yong said the Sino-Canadian relations are important bilateral relations in the world and friendly cooperation and exchange between the cities are an important aspect of developing friendly relations between the two nations. Shanghai and Montreal and Quebec Province are sister cities/province, and Shanghai and Vancouver have had productive cooperation and exchange in the port, film & TV and cultural areas. We would like to take the opportunity of the Vancouver mayors visit and the signing of the cooperation and exchange document to further boost amicable exchange between Shanghai and Vancouver and push forward our pragmatic cooperation in the economic, trade, scientific & technological innovation and tourism areas. With the building of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone as a breakthrough point, Shanghai, Chinas largest economic center, is currently building up the new system of an open economy. At the same time, it is making great effort to achieve innovation driven growth in its striving for a globally influential science & technology innovation center. We welcome businesses in all parts of the world, including Vancouver firms, to participate in the building of the Shanghai FTZ and the science & technology innovation center and share development opportunities. We will create a business environment featuring rule of law, international orientation and convenience and a fair, unified and highly efficient market environment for the businesses.

Mayor Gregor Robertson said Shanghai is a great city and the cooperation and exchange between Vancouver and Shanghai is conducive to the development of Canada-China relations. He called for the two cities to further enhance mutual understanding, learn from each other, promote investment and trade, and strengthen cooperation in the cultural and creative, environmental protection, energy and smart city areas.
