Ying Yong Meets Mayor of Rotterdam, the Netherlands

On June 7, Ying Yong, mayor of Shanghai, met with Ahmed Aboutaleb, mayor of Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and the two mayors signed a memorandum on friendly cooperation between Shanghai and Rotterdam from 2017 to 2019.

Mayor Ying Yong noted that China-Netherlands relations have maintained healthy and steady growth in recent years. Since establishing sister-city ties in 1979, Shanghai and Rotterdam have carried out a series of fruitful cooperation and exchanges and Rotterdam is one of Shanghai’s international sister cities with which Shanghai has had most frequent exchanges. At present, China is firmly pushing forward economic globalization, continuing to promote trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, and according to the requirements by the central government Shanghai is carrying forward the building of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone and assiduouslycreating a bridgehead for serving the Belt & Road development and driving the going global of market entities. Rotterdam is an important seaport in the world and with the signing of the memorandum as an opportunityShanghai is willing to deepen cooperation in economy, trade, science & technology, medical & health, water conservancy and water administration and strengthen exchange in urban administration and social governance.

Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb said Shanghai is Rotterdam’s most important friend and the two cities have had friendly cooperation and exchange in many areas, and faced with a changing world and increasingly more challenges, Rotterdam wishes to learn from each other and share experience with Shanghai, expand areas and forms of cooperation and achieve mutually beneficial development.
