Mayor outlines city's tasks at official meeting

Mayor Ying Yong urged officials to deepen reforms in China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, speed up Shanghai's transformation into a global innovation center, guarantee social stability and strengthen self-discipline. He spoke in a meeting on Monday.

Ying said the Shanghai FTZ should be the role model of other free trade zones in China and establish a trade and investment system in line with international standards. The pilot zone should generate good policies and practices for other areas to follow.

The mayor called for increased effort to build the Zhangjiang Comprehensive National Science Center and make breakthroughs in basic research of science and technology.

He said Shanghai will continue to establish startup and innovation hubs and improve its talent policies to attract more high-end professionals from abroad.

Ying also stressed urban management and social stability within the framework of law and the importance of self-discipline for all government officials.
