Ying Yong Meets Governor of Alexandria, Egypt

On August 17, Ying Yong, mayor of Shanghai, met with Dr. Mohamed Ali Ahmed Ali Sultan, governor of Alexandria Governorate, Egypt, and the delegation led by him.

Ying Yong said both China and Egypt are ancient civilizations in the world having a long history and culture. Since their establishment of comprehensive strategic partnership, China and Egypt have had a frequent exchange of high-level visits and steadily deepened their cooperation. This year marks the 25th anniversary of sister-city relationship between Shanghai and Alexandria. We are willing to, under the framework of the China-Egypt comprehensive strategic partnership and the Belt & Road Initiative, further promote our friendly ties and cultural exchange and carry forward our cooperation in the transportation, infrastructure and other areas. He called for the two sides to boost practical cooperation in environmental treatment and other areas to address problems in development facing both sides and achieve mutual benefits. He believed the governor’s visit will further enhance the friendly cooperation and exchange between the two cities.

Dr. Mohamed Ali Ahmed Ali Sultan said Shanghai is China’s economic center and it has been 25 years since Alexandria and Shanghai forged sister-city bonds. We are intensely proud of our friendship. He wished to see more friendly exchange and pragmatic cooperation in the cultural, economic, trade, tourism and urban construction areas between the two places.
