Information Office of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government

    Established in June 1991, Information Office of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government (International Communication Office of Shanghai Municipal Party of the CPC) is an administrative institution of Shanghai Municipal Party of the CPC and Shanghai Municipal People’s Government to conduct unified management of international communication of the whole municipality. Its main functions are to provide service to domestic and foreign media who give objective and impartial report of Shanghai’s economic and social development, recommend and introduce Shanghai in an active and initiative way and display the city image of Shanghai accurately and objectively.

    1. to introduce and publicize Shanghai to the outside and organize to introduce Shanghai’s economic and social development;

    2. to guide and coordinate news report of the municipality to the outside and organize news reports on significant policies, events, activities and conferences of the municipality to the outside;

    3. to work out the municipality’s development plan of news undertaking aiming at the outside world and take charge of the implementation;

    4. to guide and coordinate news release of important institutions, important organizations and all districts, counties, committees, offices and bureaus of the municipality;

    5. to take charge of news release of the municipal government and organize reporting of significant news of the municipal government;

    6. to cooperate with and coordinate relevant departments to do a good job in assisting journalists from foreign countries, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan with their interview and report in Shanghai and providing services to foreign journalists who have interviews in Shanghai;

    7. to organize and coordinate activities of overseas introduction and recommendation of Shanghai;

    8. to plan and guide the making, displaying, issuing and presenting of books, audio and video publications about Shanghai;

    9. to manage and coordinate online news of the municipality;

    10. to do research into the reports concerning Shanghai made by main media of the world and those in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and actively respond to media concern.
