Shanghai scores high on fitness facilities for residents
    The average area for sports in Shanghai reached 2.23 square meters per person in 2018, which was 6 percent higher than the national average of 2.1 square meters, according to a fitness development report of local residents released on Wednesday.
    Forty-two percent of permanent residents do physical exercise regularly, and the most popular exercises are jogging, brisk walking, cycling, swimming, badminton, hiking, rock climbing, basketball, yoga and pilates.
    In 2018, there were 89 walking paths in Shanghai. And the city accelerated the construction of the Xujiahui Sports Park, the Pudong Soccer Field and the Citizen Sports Park in suburban Jiading District.
    Nearly 2.5 million people joined 6,186 sports activities across the city last year. Among them, basketball, go and taekwondo attracted the most participants.
