Shanghai Party Secretary Yu Zhengsheng yesterday met Francis Gurry, director-general of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and his delegation.
Yu said Shanghai is promoting innovation and economic transformation and it is important for the city to enhance protection of intellectual property rights. Shanghai is redoubling its efforts to fight counterfeiting and copyright infringement, and welcomes international organizations including WIPO to set up branches here.
Gurry said Shanghai has achieved a lot in intellectual property rights protection and he is looking forward to more cooperation with Shanghai authorities.
Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng also met Gurry and his delegation yesterday and pledged support for WIPO to establish its Asia Pacific headquarters in Shanghai.
Tian Lipu, director of the State Intellectual Property Office, and Zhao Wen, vice mayor of Shanghai, were present at both meetings.
