Tianma radio telescope still works well five years after its completion
Last Saturday marked the 5th anniversary of the completion of Tianma telescope, located at the foot of Sheshan Hill in Songjiang.
The 65-meter radio telescope ranks the third in the world according to its comprehensive performance.
An overall examination of the device showed that the telescope is working well.
The telescope involves many of China's independent innovations. Its positioning accuracy can reach 15 micrometers.
Currently, it works 7,000 hours a year and serves a dozen units for scientific observation, said Shen Zhiqiang, Tianma telescope's chief scientist.
