Exhibition recalls modern industrial enterprises along Suzhou Creek
11.09.2017

An exhibition on modern industrial enterprises along Suzhou Creek was opened at Shanghai Mass Art Hall in Putuo District on November 3.

Visitors can see nearly 200 objects, pictures and videos covering food, textile and daily commodities produced by enterprises along Suzhou Creek.

Chinese industrialists opened a large number of factories there during the first half of the 20th century, which strongly supported the campaign to use "Made-in-China" goods instead of imported products.

Shanghai opened its port to foreign countries according to Treaty of Nanking on November 17, 1843. Since then, large numbers of foreign products entered China, which had devastating impact on the vulnerable Chinese economy.
