Shanghai Grand Theater to mark its 20th anniversary with 80 stage performances

    Shanghai Grand Theatre will stage a series of performances to celebrate its 20th anniversary. From January 24 to 26, Puccini's masterpiece "Turandot" will be jointly presented by Shanghai Opera Theatre and Shanghai Grand Theatre to mark the start of the anniversary.

    "Turandot" will star overseas artists such as Italian conductor Renato Palumbo and Russian soprano Maria Gulleghina. The opera enjoys high popularity in the city.

    The anniversary will feature 20 stage performances in each of the four seasons this year. A new version of Verdi's well-known opera Nabucco co-produced by Shanghai Opera Theatre and Shanghai Grand Theatre is among the planned programs.

    Besides, the Bolshoi Theater¡¯s opera "the Tsar's Bride," the outdoor version of Mozart¡¯s "Magic Flute" by Hamburg State Opera and Wagner¡¯s "the Flying Dutchman" by Germany¡¯s Erfurt Theatre will also be staged. The New York City Ballet will start its first China tour with its representative work "Jewels."
