174 young violinists plans to participate in 2018 Shanghai Isaac Stern competition

    The 2018 Shanghai Isaac Stern International Violin Competition has received a total of 174 applications from violinists in 33 countries and regions since application began on September 9.

    The biennial violin competition in commemoration of violinist Isaac Stern opens to all violinists aged between 16 and 32 in the world.

    Among the 174 applicants, 122 are from overseas and 52 are from China. The number of applications increases 48.7 percent from the previous competition, with the number of overseas competitors growing 64.9 percent. 
    This year, more than 90 percent of the applying competitors are winners of top-level international music competitions such as International Tchaikovsky Competition and Queen Elisabeth Music Competition. Half of them have been tutored by renowned violinists and educators.
