Industrial zone in Fengxian passes the state ecological examination

Shanghai Comprehensive Industrial Development Zone in Fengxian, which has completed 63 major projects over the past three years, recently passed the technological examination for the state demonstrative ecological industrial park.

"A demonstrative ecological industrial park follows the principles of clean production, circular economy and industrial ecology," introduced a director at the development zone.

Thanks to ecological treatment, the development zone is able to save 7,260 tons of coal and 240,000 cubic meters of water and cut down around 20 percent of waste water, 17 percent of chemical oxygen demand and 86 percent of sulfur dioxide each year.

Work to build an ecological environment in the zone kicked off in 2015. Experts from Shanghai University were also hired to give technical guidance.

Enterprises in the development zone have worked together to curb pollution. Yanjingshe, a company for metal processing, invested in 8.3 million yuan (US$1.3 million) last year to make the manufacturing lines and techniques more efficient and environmentally friendly, which in turn saves an annual electricity cost of 560,000 yuan.

The development zone has also taken measures to deal with the dust and sewage problems. Construction sites around like the Metro Line 5 extension and incubator base have been installed with real-time devices to monitor noise and air pollution.
