Shanghai manufacturing industry competitiveness index tops the country for 9 years

    The competitiveness index of Shanghai manufacturing industry has reached 93.2 points, 8.73 points higher than the national average and ranking No.1 for nine consecutive years in the country, according to data released by Shanghai Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision on Monday.

    In 2017, the qualified rate of the Shanghai Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision's sampling inspection reached 92.3 percent, 0.8 percentage points higher than the nation's average. The sampling inspection rate remained above 90 percent for nine consecutive years.

    In fields of great public concern, such as food safety, Shanghai is also taking the leading position by maintaining the mass food poisoning incident rate lower than 1 case per 100,000 residents.

    In terms of environment quality, the major air pollutants such as PM2.5, PM10 and sulfur dioxide reached the lowest density in 2017 compared with previous years.

    Also, the qualified rate of the city's cross sections of major rivers reached 59.1 percent in 2017, up 16.2 percent from the previous year. The city added 4,580 hectares of forests, 1,200 hectares of grassland, and increased the forest coverage rate to 16.2 percent.

    Shen Weimin, deputy director of the bureau, said next Shanghai will strengthen the legislature study to improve the environment and to promote the innovative environment supervision mechanisms and the development of the local brands.
