Shanghai Insurance Exchange (SIE), incorporated on June 6, 2016, and officially launched on June 12, is a joint-stock limited company established in strict accordance with the Company Law. It operates under the direct management of the China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC).


SIE follows the principles of corporatization, marketization, and specialization, initiated by 91 shareholders. With an initial registered capital of RMB 2.235 billion, its registered office is located in the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone. SIE’s first board of directors consists of nine members. Positioned as an integrated insurance service platform based in Shanghai and serving China and the global market, SIE focuses on two main functions: boosting the inventory of insurance and supporting the use of insurance increment. Over time, SIE has developed and provided six major functions, including price discovery, trade finance, information services, technical support, product innovation, and self-regulatory supervision. These functions contribute to more transparent insurance products, comprehensive information disclosure, convenient services, enhanced functionality, and measurable and controllable risks. In 2018, SIE continued to promote the establishment of insurance, reinsurance, and insurance asset management platforms. It gradually built standardized and unified functional service facilities for accounts, clearing and settlement, and anti-fraud measures.


Main business:

SIE serves as a comprehensive platform, providing venues, facilities, and services for trading insurance, reinsurance, insurance asset management, and related products. It formulates and implements business rules to ensure smooth operations. Additionally, SIE assists clients in selecting insurance agencies such as insurance brokers, insurance companies, and reinsurance companies, guiding them through relevant procedures. Acting as an agent, SIE also sells insurance and related products, collecting agency fees in the process. Moreover, SIE offers payment and settlement services for insurance, reinsurance, and insurance asset management transactions. In addition to its core services, SIE delivers information security consultation and IT outsourcing services, ensuring the confidentiality and integrity of data. It provides research and consultation, education and training, and data information services, specifically focusing on insurance and reinsurance markets. SIE actively engages in investments related to its own business activities. Furthermore, in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, SIE conducts other businesses permitted by the regulatory framework.
