Shanghai Science Festival to start on August 20

The 2022 Shanghai Science Festival, which will kick off on August 20 and last for one week, will showcase the city's scientific and technological innovation strength across multiple dimensions.

Launched in 1991, the Shanghai Science Festival is the first science festival sponsored by the government in China and the second in the world.

This year's festival is divided into 10 sections, such as forums, events, science and art, youth, audio-visual and enterprise. There will be more than 1,100 activities, including science fairs, science popularization events, forum lectures, laboratory opening, science popularization base opening, and science popularization works exhibition, including 658 online activities.

The first Shanghai Science Communication Conference will also be held on August 20.

The conference has invited all kinds of science and technology communication celebrities, including Nobel Prize winner Michael Levitt; eminent scientists like Wang Pinxian, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; biologist Wang Hongyang; and Ding Kuiling, a member with the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the executive vice president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University; and many key opinion leaders. They will talk about the practice of science popularization during the conference.

The conference has also invited experts from well-known research institutions from home and abroad to conduct discussions on hot topics of science and technology communication, and actively explore the construction of academic positions and the cohesion of professionals.
