Japan's JETRO launches camping activity to tap into booming market

10-19-2023

To promote a new way of life to Chinese consumers, the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), an exhibitor for the 6th China International Import Expo, launched a camping experience activity featuring Japanese camping equipment at the weekend.

This is the first large-scale camping event of its kind held in China.

All products at the event are sold through online channels. Visitors can fully understand the products through actual experiences before purchasing.

The event also exhibited food, beverages and alcoholic beverages that are highly compatible with camping.

This event is a cooperative project of the CIIE, and all products at the event will also be exhibited at the expo.

In recent years, the Chinese camping economy has been growing rapidly, and related industry markets are also expanding. According to iiMedia Research, the sales of China's core camping market reached 113.5 billion yuan (US$15.53 billion) in 2022, a year-on-year increase of 51.8 percent.

The history of camping in Japan can be traced back to more than 100 years ago, when many camping equipment brands such as Snow Peak and Captain Stag were born.

In the future, Snow Peak will open physical stores in Shanghai, Chengdu and Ningbo, and Captain Stag will open its first overseas physical store in Shanghai this month.
