Russian crab culture festival brings fresh delicacies to Shanghai

10-24-2023

The first Russian Crab Culture Festival made its debut in Shanghai over the weekend.

Three crab fishing companies from Russia transported the fresh food across 6,000 kilometers and brought a crab feast to the citizens and tourists of Shanghai.

Dozens of related enterprises, hundreds of food critics and local residents participated in the festival held at the BFC Fengjing Road Night Market on the Bund. Diners were able to savor the freshest king crabs, drink the strongest vodka and experience authentic Russian style.

As of October of this year, the total sales volume of live king crabs in China was 12,000 tons, an increase of 25 percent compared with the same period last year. It is estimated that the national import volume of live king crabs in 2023 will increase from 12,000 tons in 2022 to 18,000 tons.

Earlier, a Russian vessel arrived at the Changxing Hengsha Fishery Port in Shanghai, carrying 222 tons of live king crabs, which was the first single ship carrying over 200 tons of king crabs to enter a port in Shanghai and even in China.

The Chongming frontier inspection station provided a quick border inspection channel for the vessel, fully ensuring the rapid clearance of live seafood products.
